Central Asia Institute

7% of your payment was donated to Greg Mortenson's Central Asia Institute in 2009.

CAI7% of all gross receipts from my private massage practice were donated to Greg Mortenson's Central Asia Institute in 2009. CAI's mission is to promote and support community-based education, especially for girls, in remote regions of Pakistan and Afghanistan.

I read Three Cups of Tea on the airplane over the December 2008 holidays and it inspired me like never before. Greg Mortenson has a huge heart and is a living Saint of the highest merit. For the last 15 years, Greg has forged relationships with a forgotten and impoverished people in the most remote and dangerous regions of the world in order to improve the quality of their lives by helping them build schools.

It costs $1.00 per month for one child's education in Pakistan or Afghanistan, a penny to buy a pencil, and a teacher's salary averages $1.00 per day. I am honored to support Greg Mortenson's efforts through my own work as a massage therapist by donating 7% all gross receipts from my private practice.

Greg Mortenson goes to war with the root causes of terrorism every time he offers a student a chance to receive a balanced education, rather than attend a radical extremist madrassa. I truly believe this is the most effective strategy to secure our nation and peacefully fight terrorism.

Three Cups of Tea

Since 1993, Greg Mortenson's CAI has built more than 78 schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan with an emphasis on educating girls.

Research has proven that educated girls are more likely to marry later, have fewer children, contribute to family income and insist their own children are educated. They are less likely to die while giving birth and their children are less likely to die. They are less vulnerable to disease, sexual exploitation, and child labor.

Three Cups of Tea

There are national benefits as well, including economic growth and prosperity and stronger democracies. In short, there may be no better investment for the health and development of poor countries around the world than investments to educate girls.

"Three Cups of Tea is one of the most remarkable adventure stories of our time. Greg Mortenson's dangerous and difficult quest to build schools in the wildest parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan is not only a thrilling read, it's proof that one ordinary person, with the right combination of character and determination, really can change the world." - Tom Brokaw
