About Massage Therapy

"Massage's healing powers make it serious medicine."(LIFE, August 1997)

The massage therapy Robert performs allows the body to literally transform during and after the session. The therapy releases restricted body patterns and removes the physical blocks to vibrant health. Harmony and balance are integrated back into the body structure as techniques appropriate to one's condition are applied.

When the body experiences trauma, it can become physically locked into unhealthy and unbalanced patterns. Stress, tension, and pain can create physical blockages and restrictions in the body that can literally weigh the body down. This is because the body will expend extra energy in its effort to achieve equilibrium as it counteracts structural disharmony and restrictive patterns. This effort can exhaust the body's energy.

As stress and trauma are removed from the body, energy is freed up to go where it can be best utilized in the body. This elevates the body's vitality and gives the body energy to heal. During and after the treatment, the body begins to re-pattern itself so that it functions in a more harmonious and healthy way. With the stress, tension, pain, and trauma eliminated from the body, one can actually feel lighter, with more flexibility and a greater range of motion.

As the body's equilibrium is restored and the mechanics of the body become more efficient, less energy is expended in movement and in responding to the pull of gravity. An increase in energy is experienced as the body's vitality is increased. This can boost physical performance and bring one to the experience of radiant and vibrant health.

About Myopractics

Myopractics uses a non-traumatic form of dynamic manipulation and soft tissue techniques that enable the body to restore and maintain a state of balance and well being. The goal of Myopractics is to re-pattern the body so that one can function freely without stress, tension, or pain. This comprehensive treatment is done fully clothed and takes anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes to complete.

A basic principle of Myopractics is that life is motion. The body is a fluid and dynamic system that is in constant motion. Anything that obstructs this life movement and restricts body tissue will manifest as aches and pains, tension and stress, or limited mobility. When there is a lack of motion in the body, this is referred to as a "restriction". A restriction causes an imbalance in the body that typically results in increased muscle tension in the area of the restriction and in adjacent areas. The body will typically produce this muscle tension in an attempt to counteract the restriction and re-establish structural harmony.

For example, many back problems are directly related to some structural imbalance from restrictions in the pelvic region. This area is especially important to the Myopractitioner. The pelvis is the foundation and weight bearing center of the human body. If there is a lack of motion in the pelvis, the body may shift the burden and tension of weight bearing into another area, such as the back. In this way, muscle tension is created in the back in an attempt to maintain balance and to establish normal posture. Once proper weight transfer of the body into the pelvis is restored through Myopractic techniques, the structural relationships are anatomically correct and harmonious, and the rest of the body structure can become normalized.

Myopractics brings one's entire body into balance and harmony. Through Myopractic techniques, motion is restored in the body so that one regains freedom of movement, maximum functioning and, consequently, freedom from stress.

About CranioSacral Therapy

CranioSacral work appears to be a subtle treatment, yet its effects can be profound. Robert gently touches the head, sacrum, and other areas of the body with the lightest of pressure in order to determine where the craniosacral system is blocked and in need of correction. Robert works with the energy of the client's body to release the blocks and establish harmony within the crainosacral system. This work can eliminate pain and discomfort as the body's vitality is increased and a higher state of health and well-being is achieved.

The craniosacral system is a semi-closed hydraulic system (a closed container with a regulated inflow and outflow mechanism). It is contained within the dura mater which is a tough, waterproof membrane that envelops the brain and the spinal cord. An important function of this system is the production, circulation and reabsorption of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). CSF is produced within the craniosacral system and maintains the physiological environment in which your brain and nervous system develop, live, and function.

Normally, the production and reabsorption of CSF within the dura mater produces a continuous rise and fall of fluid pressure within the craniosacral system. This semi-closed hydraulic system expands and contracts to some extent with this rhythmical pressure fluctuation. This volumetric accommodation prevents pressure from building up too much within the craniosacral system.

If for some reason your body is unable to accommodate these pressure changes, the subsequent buildup of pressure can contribute to dysfunction and ill health, especially in the central nervous system which is enclosed within the boundaries of the craniosacral system.
